About core research cluster
In June 2017, Tohoku University was appointed “Designated National University” by the the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The status “Designated National University” is given to national universities that conduct education and research activities of the highest international level.
The research cluster is composed of the eight institutions: Graduate School of Arts and Letters; Graduate School of Natural Science; Graduate School of Environmental Science; Institute of Development, Aging, and Cancer; International Research Institute of Disaster Science; Center for Northeast Asian Studies; Hospital, and School of Medicine.
The cluster strengthen our international competitiveness by promoting research and education in collaboration with leading universities and research institutes from around the globe. Furthermore, we are fostering a strong relationships with the UN and other international institutions through the organization of international events and institutions such as the World Bosai Forum or the Global Center for Disaster Statistics.
